Tip #1: Choose a formula

Tip #2: Prep your skin

Use an exfoliating body scrub such as our Super Fine Skin Polish, which eliminates dead skin cells while smoothing the skin’s surface for a perfect base for tanning. Pay particular attention to exfoliate areas like the elbows, knees, knuckles and ankles (as they tend to turn darker than the rest of your skin).

Tip #3: Skip the moisturizer

Do not moisturize prior to tanning as this will create a barrier to the self tanner and hinder that gorgeous glow from developing. On areas of that are prone to very dry skin, you can apply a very small amount of moisturizer and let it sink into the skin to dry thoroughly before applying your tanning product. No need to moisturize after tanning either as Vita Liberata products are formulated with a Hydrolock Moisture System.

Tip #4: Protect the hands

We highly recommend using our Tanning Mitt to not only ensure a flawless, streak-free bronze tan, but also to prevent your hands from any staining. It’s a number one tale-tell sign of a fake tan! So, place your hand inside the Tanning Mitt then pump some product onto the mitt and close your hand to distribute evenly.

Tip #5:Apply in circular motions

Using light, elongated, circular movements, apply the your self tanner to one limb at a time working from the top of the arm to the wrist, and the bottom of the leg to the thigh. Use a large grape-sized amount of product to cover about half a limb, gently rubbing in circular motions. This helps the active ingredients absorb into the skin better.

Tip #6: Be aware of your trouble spots

Don’t over do your hands and feet with excess product. Remember to blend lightly on the back of the hands and tops of feet, using the remaining residue product that is left in the Tanning Mitt. The skin on your knuckles, elbows, knees and heels tans darker than the skin on the rest of your body; gently wipe these areas with a damp cloth after you’ve applied the self tanner to avoid tell-tale splotches.

Tip #7: Hit you where the Sun does shine

You only want to tan the parts of your body that the Sun would naturally tan, so forget the soles of your feet and in between toes. Also think about it: You don’t tan in between your fingers or on the heel of your hand, so wipe these areas after application.

Tip #8: Let it set

Wait a couple of minutes before getting dressed to let the tanning products sink in and when you no longer feel sticky or tacky, then go about your day. Just don’t shower for at least 4 to 8 hours as your gorgeous new Vita Liberata tan is developing.
